In 1988 Martin Scorsese, Director of The Last Temptation of Christ, included an amazing narrative in the fictional (partly not) film that brought my radar on full blast. The year I watched this was in the early 1990s, then during my dissertation research in 2002 or so I watched it again and wrote notes as the film played on what "Jesus" says when he is in the desert for a long time and comes upon another man and they talk, and the other man thinks he's the Messiah, and Jesus says something you just wouldn't expect from a Messiah, god-man, or divine being... but here it is. I love it! I think it is more accurate than all the religious depictions--or at least it is a deeper truth that would really help us humans 'get real' with Life on this planet. This certainly is a quote that reaffirms the many premise of the philosophy of fearism that Desh Subba and I write about.
