Scorsese on JC's Fear

In 1988 Martin Scorsese, Director of The Last Temptation of Christ, included an amazing narrative in the fictional (partly not) film that brought my radar on full blast. The year I watched this was in the early 1990s, then during my dissertation research in 2002 or so I watched it again and wrote notes as the film played on what "Jesus" says when he is in the desert for a long time and comes upon another man and they talk, and the other man thinks he's the Messiah, and Jesus says something you just wouldn't expect from a Messiah, god-man, or divine being... but here it is. I love it! I think it is more accurate than all the religious depictions--or at least it is a deeper truth that would really help us humans 'get real' with Life on this planet. This certainly is a quote that reaffirms the many premise of the philosophy of fearism that Desh Subba and I write about.
