My colleague Four Arrows (aka Don T. Jacobs) has been participating in the Standing Rock battle against unlawful practices of the oil pipeline going through N. Dakota this year. He wrote today of the police and National Guard "who are working for DAPL and ETP are ruthless in their actions" against Native people's protesting (estimated, 4-5,000)... it is "terrorism pure and simple. Medics are targeted as are leaders. This terrorism continues with outrages arrests" If people want to send financial support to the Natives and other water protectors at Standing Rock, go to http://ocetisakowincamp.org (pers. comm. Four Arrows, Nov. 7, 2016).

For these sacred warriors, a reminder from The Bird Tribes (channeled by Ken Carey, 1988):

"Our spiritual intelligence is the missing dimension, the rejected aspect, of your own wholeness. For thousands of years, you have been afraid of us. Many of you are now learning that you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by establishing contact with us once again. It is only your ego that makes you fear.... Your ego is the steward and potential master of all material-plane fears, an important and necessary component of your identity. However, your ego was never meant to provide you with your primary sense of self. In a healthy state, the ego is a secondary component of identity. In a healthy state, the Being behind all being... is experienced as your primary sense of self." (pp. 57-58)

-Sun Bear, author of Medicine Wheel endorsed Carey's book, "A very well written book that captures the Native American feeling. I enjoyed reading it immensely."

  • Recently (Nov. 7), Four Arrows wrote me (email) from a space (break time) from his work as a field medic, Vietnam War vet, and spiritual elder for the activists at Standing Rock, ND.

"I thought of you at a medic meeting where an Indian medic lectured the group of 30 volunteers about courage and fearlessness. He spoke a long time, ending with 'We (Indians) see fear smiling at us and we smile back. If most of you see bullets coming at you, you will turn and run. My people will keep moving forward!"
