  • I commented on Atkin's recent talk:

I don't believe that everyone should lead a life in chronic low-grade fear/anxiety. How about that for a place to start therapy? Great talk and critique Mickey, for sure; my own framing of critique starts with the conjunction of a "culture of fear" as meta-context to everything in neoliberalism and capitalism and pathological patriarchy (for starters)--and thus, if every psychotherapist licensed is to conform to the standards of the State--in such a meta-context, then "fear" will be accepted in all its forms as 'normal' more or less. I don't think we've even begun to unfold the disasters of this all but for the therapeutic end of things, we have to do a whole new recalibration of our relationship to fear in what I have called the 'Fear' Matrix. I'm really putting concepts out here to keep us thinking about the deepest existential and emotional, affective dimension of what is going on as we "go to work" in this society that is swimming in "liquid fear" (a la Zygmunt Bauman's critical analysis of postmodern culture). Keep up the good work, I'm all for more dialogue on this. Don't hesitate to contact me to pursue improving "therapy" (via emancipation) in our imaginaries and in our clinical settings, but more so in our everyday lives. r.michaelfisher52@gmail.com
