"Fearlessness is not only possible, it is the ultimate joy. When you touch nonfear, you are free." -Thich Nhat Hahn
A Zen Buddhist monk (Vietnamese), the internationally recognized activist and spiritual teacher has died recently and I honor his work, especially his teaching on fear and fearlessness.
In a recent documentary on his last years, he is quoted as saying (paraphrasing), 'we have opportunity to build a new society in the 21st century, let it be a century of spirituality; for without this there will be no survival'.
I heartily agree. A "century of spirituality" (aka century of peace) like never before on a global level. The trick is to figure out what spirituality means and how best to implement it, individually and collectively. He particularly practiced Zen Buddhism, but he was against all ideologies and doctrine, event that from Buddhism itself. His view and approach is interesting and progressive, an education in spirituality itself, with his unique flavor, his happiness at core, but he also knew fear was the great limitation and force that would prevent it.
