I long ago found this gem of a book in the library; finally bought my own copy the other day. Maslow, A. (1966). The Psychology of Science: A Reconnaissance. South Bend, IN: Gateway. (he basically puts all of Science 'on the couch' for a good psychoanalysis)...
This chapter 3 tells the core of Maslow's research into the pathological and healthy distinction of "science" (and, overall, cognitive needs and operations).... thought I would share one page...
he is basically saying fear-based is unhealthy in the domain of cognitive operations (I couldn't agree more)... courage-based (which he likewise implies love-based, by any other name)... the implications of this for the need (desire) to design and develop a proper fear management/education on the planet seem pretty obvious, and Maslow had studied this problem in the early-mid 1960s... oh, my ... we're so slow to pick up on the 'gems' of this man's research and theorizing...
