I recently made this poster, and also watched Giroux (a critical pedagogue at McMasters University) go after American society and its insane way of breeding fear when they are supposed to be controlling fear and "making America, safe and great, etc."... you've heard Trump on this, and Bush before him.... take a look at a series of 3 interviews with Giroux by host at The Real News Network
p.s. when Giroux is writing a book on "America's Addiction to Terrorism" ... my framing of that is something I have argued for decades, is that Western societies are growing addicted to fear like never before in history (an arguable case, at least)... more, recently, I would write this as an addiction to the ideology of fearism-t (see my book with Desh Subba "Philosophy of Fearism: A First East-West Dialogue)... unfortunately, as much as the leftist Giroux is quick to blame the Right for flaming fear, he can be charged doing the same thing just from a slightly different angle (?) see for yourself... what Giroux is pointing out, not unlike in the 2004 presidential election, is that "fear" is a massive force in shaping what kind of leaders that run for office
