What? No blondes, red-heads, no mousy-gray-brown... nope... all dark brown and black hair!
Problem of Lookism (fear of looking different): It is ironic how we celebrate (pc) diversity in higher education, and yet, all these photos came out of one (Bow Valley College) course catalogue for Summer 2017. The diversity is erased by all the advertisement of very similar faces (young "beautiful" slim women) all smiling ... I found only 1 out of 30 photos or so that wasn't smiling... it makes me think these images of advertising for (Western) higher education are more promoting toothpaste or dental (commercials) than critical consciousness reflection and the true role of higher education. A sad statement of our times, we see this commercialized, and passified image of "how we should look" if we go into higher education. FYI, of the many photos used in this catalogue 90% at least are young women. I have researched higher education catalogues and online websites, and this is the standard, homogenized image... ubiquitous. A sad statement of the consciousness of higher education institutions (for the most part) today!
