Fear Poetry: Form of Fearism

(This review of Fear Poetry by Rana Kafle, from Assam, India, is published in Lok Chintan Monthly Magazine January-February 2018 issue from Kanpur, India. His book reviewed by Surendra Gupta Sikar. This review is translated into English by Surya Prakash Pangdhak Limbu. Rana Kafle is an ardent believer of theory of Philosophy of Fearism. He has written two other essays, one story book and one book of poetry based on the philosophy of Fearism by Desh Subba.)

Surendra Gupta "Sikar"

Tulasidas, the world famous poet, wrote in his Ramcharitmanas, "Without accepting humble requests promptly, three days have gone. Laxman, handle your bow being absence of fear and affection!"

The mentioned couple of verses confirm "Fearism." Lots of congratulations and best wishes for the publication of your work "Bhaya(Fear)". In the course of Fearism-tradition, "Bhaya" is an important step. Certainly, "Bhaya" will be the useful work for those researchers working on "Fearism". I went through "Bhaya Poetry" thoroughly. I liked it very much. Fear is everywhere in the core of all human activities and biological achievement as the fundamental fact. Fear leads a person to be oriented for goal achievement. "Fear" is the philosophy that transmits biological life. Buddhism is also the return of "Fearism".

Art and edition of the work "Bhaya" has come to be so beautiful. Congratulations and best wishes once again.  -RK

Young Fearism Star from Nigeria

Book review

Young Fearism Star from Nigeria
                                                                                                    —Desh Subba

I have written in his book, "Emerging Fearologist of the world." P. 37

"We as the foundational members of fearology/fearism are building a good foundation for the discipline, so many writers have written and said much about fear but none has taken the bull by the horn as we are doing it to carefully understand what fear truly is and at the same time building a better lexicon for it in academic milieu." P. 37-38

Contribution done by young Nigerian author Osinakachi Akuma Kalu, “Conquering The Beast Fear Philosophical cum Psychological Approach” and “The First Stage of the Fearologist.”

These two books are first step towards "Philosophy of Fearism" world from Africa. First step following the footsteps of Tenzing Norgay, Yuri Gagirin, Neil Armstrong and Rene Descartes in the shaping of history. How pretty such move was. The world keeps record of significant contributions. In my opinion, OAK's enlightenment was first and fundamental to his writings. Without enlightenment nobody can be a scientist, spiritual leader, political leader or philosopher. It is people’s enlightenment that conduct, guide and control them in pavement of their future. Osinakachi is already enlightened and I enjoin you to travel with me briefly through his renowned two books:

In “Conquering the Beast Fear: Philosophical cum Psychological Approach”, Fear was considered as a giant beast. What gives birth to the fear beast? How does it grow and affects people’s life? It is written in the first book. Fear was seen almost in its negative sense. But even though it is negative, there is enough seed to grow philosophy. I haven’t seen such kind of philosophical approach to fear from Africa before, though there are a lot of fiction, literature, and biographical books.

"The First Stage of The Fearologist" is growing from seed which he planted in his previous book.

This book is biographical, essay cum critical. We can read his childhood, adolescent and adult entry into the school and world of "Philosophy of Fearism". I noticed his patience, hardship and continuous devotion. I wrote in the beginning; how pretty his entry was; is not important because beauty is not a pioneer. Starters usually encounter many thorns on the way. It is after their passing through the rough path that paves the way for later comers to work with beauty. It was very hard to climb "The Mount Everest" in 1953. When Norgay and Edmond's expedition team climbed from different corner, latter somebody even climbed 25 times.

Osinakachi deserves to be called the first fearologist in the world. Even though Fearology contents are difficult to find in the book, but when we read it, a new horizon of knowledge is opened for us and some of our “fearological talents” will be exposed. He is indeed a young star of fear management/fearlessness/fearism. The world can expect something new from him.

Example, "The Young Buffalo" is the best. P. 90

One of the most beautiful quotation among many is "The place of fear in our existential struggle is a pointer to a Supreme Being." P. 103

There are some fearological poems which depict the philosophy of fearism in the book. All I can say is that the book is a form of biography, philosophy, fearology, criticism and literature. I rate his works gold. It is pertinent to note that every root can grow in its' own pace and I hope that one day Osinakachi will shine as a greater Fearologist cum philosopher in the world.

Koirala, who accepts himself as a socialist, exposes fear inherited in human beings as open and naked version in his stories. Under the theory of “Philosophy of Fearism”, the basic idea of human life is “fear” and that “fear” leads the life. This is the central philosophy of Koirala’s stories.

Bishweshar Prasad Koirala, the apex personality of Nepalese politics as well as story writing in Nepalese literature, was born on September 9, 1914 to his father Krishna Prasad and mother Divya in Banaras, a religious city of India. He passed his childhood with his father in India although his permanent residence was in Morang (a district in eastern Nepal) since his father’s exile with all properties. He had started his college life in Kashi Hindu University, completed BA from Banaras Hindu University and completed BL from Kolkata (formerly Calcutta).

In 1942, regarding Koirala’s political career, he became secretary of Congress Socialist Party, Bihar section. Koirala, who started doing politics being part of Anti-British Quit India Movement while living in India, became home minister of Nepal after Anti-Rana Armed People’s Movement in 1951. He became the first elected prime minister of Nepal from June 30, 1959 to December 15, 1960 after winning in parliamentary election from Biratnagar that was held under multiparty system.

Koirala was impressed and inspired by many veteran writers such as Prem chand, Tagore, Tolstoy, Turgenev, Chekhov, Gorky, and so on. His political activities has great importance in political history of Nepal. Koirala, who had become president of Nepali Congress Party, was also an active participant of “Socialist International”.

Koirala’s literary writing began walking by the inspiration of Shanti Prasad Dwivedi when he would live in Banaras. Some consider his Hindi story writing had begun from “Haridatta” in 1929 and some point out his story writing stepped ahead from “Wahan (he/she)” that had been published in “Hansh (Swan)” newspaper in 1931.

He started writing Stories in Nepali being inspired by Surya Bikram Gyawali in Darjeeling while practicing advocacy after completing BL. “Chandravadan” story that published in “Sharada (Literary Magazine month of Mangsir)” Nov/Dec issue in 1935 was the first story of Koirala in Nepalese language which was the beginning point of psychological story writing in Nepali story writing, too. “Doshi Chasma” (fault eyeglass) (1949) and “Shwet Bhairawi” (White goddess) (1982) have been published as collection of stories. All his stories have been collectively published in Bisheswar Prasad Koirala ka Katha (Stories of Bisheswar Prasad Koirala)  (1993) edited by Hari Prasad Sharma.

Bisheswar Prasad Koirala, who has been successful with the use of innovation fiction experiment, innovation establishment and knowledge-identification as the essential conditions for modernity, is a FEARIST storyteller. The tale of mental intervention in human’s intercourse comes under FEARIST stories.

Koirala, who accepts himself as a socialist, exposes fear inherited in human beings as opened and naked version in his stories. Under the theory of “Philosophy of Fearism”, the basic idea of human life is “fear” and that “fear” leads the life. He aims to open a wide variety of fears of human life through his story. He has analyzed the fear by allying with human’s consciousness in fascinating and artistic manner. In his stories, he has presented horrific facts in how much fear is powerful, while inaugurating the intense fear of unconsciousness. That’s why, nearly all characters of his stories have become prey of fear frustration because of strong presence of inspiring fear within them.

Any storyteller creates the character to present the fears of human life and they have ability to catch micro organs of fear entering into the depth of characters’ fear. Life is a lot of deaths in the course of survival of a terrible life, even if life is not like life itself. That’s why, it is not easy attempt to find the meaningfulness of fearful life, for making sense of reality about fear in human life. Similarly, Koirala, in the course of searching the essence of fear, sometime he gives birth to Krishna Ray (character of story), sometime Keshav Raj (character of story), sometime a soldier, and sometime reins general people in his writings.

Koirala is able to find out what ideas come in the minds of people being completely feared that people refuse the presence of fear in practical life. He has shown the inter-struggle among feared minds through his stories. He believes that all decisions of human beings becomes possible due to activeness of fear. In this way, creating characters according to human activities, he analyzes subtle fear of characters. To know the true nature of his characters, we must assume fearful mind as the source. He has discovered secrets of fearful minded person’s work by premising Fearistic Analysis.

Consciousness and fear play vital role while creating contents of Koirala’s stories. His stories can be felt realistic due to presence of discrimination, scare of human beings, meaninglessness, defeated fear of destiny, and the actions of characters driven by fear. Koirala is very intense in search of the effects of horrible situation to character’s mind.

Human being has a desire to organize and confirm life as well as to look at it, but it is frightening to do as much as possible. Managing life and giving determined direction, due to the same fear of doing increases human being’s stress. Due to the fear, a person living in a small way does a lot of work to please the people living in a high position. When a small employee has a minor weakness for a person of high position, there is fear with small employee if later would get angry. Due to this, a small employee is forced to live in a fearful situation.

… Army General came up with horse. Keshav Raj was trembling by fear. Making comfortable situation to himself, he cried out with fear, “My lord, the fault of the glass…I’m sorry.”

Army General asked by stopping horse, “What sorry?” Keshav Raj got nervous. How much anger as if he is not ready to forgive. He started seeing dark around himself. Trembling feet couldn’t work.  He sat suddenly by holding his hair with both hands. …Keshav Raj looked like a fifty year old man as if hands should be put on waist while walking. He felt the need of stick to walk …. In this way, in the story “Doshi Chasma (fault glass)”, Keshav Raj couldn’t be able to bow to Army General, and effect that his mind has been thrilling that is a reflection of fear of the people who are still in the care tradition. (This story is taken from Fault Glass of Koirala)

The fear being far away from actual stuffs and problem is the artificial. Orthodox, blind beliefs make people afraid, and this is not real. Doubt and illusion gets birth. It is illusion to see the rope as snake. It is a doubt that watching rope whether it is a snake or real.

The fear of doubt is by product of human mind. It is not awaken in all situation. The incident occurred in the opposition of any person, even by fear of doubts, the general incident works, as incident of stick hitting happened to Krishna Ray in the story “Shatru (enemy)”. Because, he expressed his fears as a reaction to the incident before clarity of the event. It is the nature of human beings, which can be taken as proof of the fact that the tiger of mind consumes than other tigers instead.

Koirala, in his stories, has presented in realistic way that the scenario of how an innocent person considers others as his enemy after thrilled when he is in asleep. Similarly, he has made contents while plotting his stories that how fear appears in human beings’ mind.

Fear covers infinity like the horizon. Consciousness, knowledge and sky of fear are like the horizon that can’t be touched by a traveler’s step or feet. There are three layers in living beings as consciousness, knowledge and fear. The stories of Koirala have presented the vision that consciousness and wisdom are close to fear, it is forced to live with fear where there is a chance of explosion in an opportunity. The power comes from the fear of a person who works in his life. In Koirala’s stories, what an inspiring and unwanted form of this fear can be found.

The central essence of his stories is the fear in human beings’ intimidation and consequences created by that fear. The person who has sunk in fear can’t save his self-respect if he doesn’t get success as high as his fear that he has. Feared person can never walk with head high and he can’t get pleasure in his dream, too. Thus, it is the success of storyteller Bisheswar Prasad Koirala that he could inaugurate the true fear by presenting in brief, by analyzing in fascinating way, and by giving message to discourage fear so that self-respect could be saved, success could be achieved and a joyful life could be lead.

Philosophy of Fearism in African Nation

Philosophy of Fearism in African Nation

Pradip Menyangbo

[This article, which I have translated into English is published in one of the main newspapers of Nepal Kantipur Daily (02/13/18) in Nepalese language. Translated with the permission of the author/reporter] [Assistant translations by Surya Prakash Pangdhak Limbu; also edited by R. Michael Fisher]

News

February 13, 2018

Western intellectuals have accepted the…Bhayabad (Nepalese word for Philosophy of Fearism) or Philosophy of Fearism produced by Desh Subba, who has been living in Yuen Long in Hong Kong for two decades. Philosophers and writers from Canada and different African countries are collaborating together with Mr. Subba in order to further re-interpret and redefine the Fearism writings that have won dozens of international awards, including in the USA.

While the intellectual world is interested in discussing fear(ism), high officials of the police and military departments of some African countries are facing violence and civil war. They recently have expressed their concern about the practical use of the philosophy of fearism to manage the fear of society in practical life. Police and military have shown good interest to formulate policy for fear management by practicing Mr. Subba’s philosophy through maintaining peace and security in society, family, and whole country, by freeing any kind of terror also coming from natural disasters, and setting the fear management agenda as the main purpose of their countries.

Furgeli Sherpa, a facilitator of fear management, said that seven nations’s senior police officers from different African countries had drawn the conclusion in a workshop held in Mukjar, a city in Sudan, that growing fear in their country could be managed according to Fearism. Sherpa is working in the UN peace keeping force, Sudan. He is from an Armed Police Force of Nepal.

Sherpa said 27 police and military officers from Tunisia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Namibia and Jordan had responded that Fearism is practical philosophy to manage different types of fears in family and society. Their goal is to improve ways to manage fear and control crime, civil war, murder, violence and they require philosophy in order to be utilized from the ground all the way up to the policy formulation levels. Fearism recognizes that “life is conducted, directed, controlled and operated by fear,” as Subba’s book sub-title suggests.

Fearism was conceptualized and coined in 1999 by Mr. Subba, who has been living in Hong Kong with his family for two decades. Philosophy of Fearism has come on the world stage of thought as the latest philosophy, which has been awarded after acceptance of western authors and philosophers. It is the first time in Africa to be utilized. The philosophy has become attractive to many universities from Hong Kong, Sikkim, Northeast India, Bangladesh, USA and Europe, where Subba has lectured.

Armed police force of Nepal reaches into Sudan, Sherpa said, "They have drawn the conclusion that the philosophy that has been founded by a Nepalese (Subba), can help those African countries facing violence and civil war to better manage fear.” Facilitator of the program in Sudan, Sherpa added’ “Every work done by the police and the army of any country, is to make citizens free from fear and terror and give them protection and peace. The philosophy guides to how to make citizens free from fear and establish calmness in society.”

He said African police personnel and the army self-approved of the philosophy as a positive fear which could be used as a means of increasing courage, motivation and will. Sherpa reported, after his introductory workshop, that Tanzania police officer Sheila Msami, said, “Fearism will be able to help to manage fear generated by terrorism and civil war.” He added that Msami responded Fearism as relevant to the peace, security and development of the nation.Mr. Subba expressed his gladness that police and army personnel of some African countries had taken his Philosophy of Fearism as the means to develop their countries with establishing fearless peace. He added, “Up until now, the philosophy has become an interesting subject for philosophical studying and some scholars, but I felt good that it is entering Africa, as police and army have also started to realize Fearism potential.”

The First Stage of the Fearologist

Nigerian author Osinakachi Akuma Kalu has just published a new book: The First Stage Of The Fearologist (2017). He has been writing books within the Fearism genre in the past couple years. His last book was "Conquering the Beast Fear A Philosophical Cum Psychological Approach" (2016). This book is the first book looking at fear as philosophical aspect. His second book explores more aspects of fear.

These two books will be recognized tomorrow as a part of Philosophy of Fearism/Fearlessness/Fear Psychology/Fearlessness Movement. It is my understanding that he is a rising philosophical author from Africa already at age 24. We are a team of Philosophy of Fearism. I hope some more authors will join us in the future. He is one of the best nurturerers of Philosophy of Fearism in the world.

CONQUERING THE BEAST FEAR

Osinakachi Akuma Kalu posted introductory massage in World Philosophy of Fearism Group. He is an author of CONQUERING THE BEAST FEAR. He is from Nigeria.

Fear is portrayed as the beast that lives within the human being, controlling the emotions and resulting actions of the person. Fear, as a concept, cuts across philosophical and psychological spheres of life.
The book “CONQUERING THE BEAST FEAR: A Philosophical Cum Psychological Approach” links these social science disciplines together as it meticulously philosophizes the concept of fear and points out the psychological effects of risk-taking in one’s own mind which he experiences as his behavior changes. The book opens up with Chapter One explaining how wicked the beast is through concepts such as fear itself, personal fear, and the role of fear in physical, psychological and spiritual problems. Chapter Two discusses types of fear associated with public speaking, change, trust, abandonment, loneliness, failure, death and even love. Chapter Three links life potentials with fear ranging from taking risks to what obstacles fear can present. This flows into Chapters Four and Five which present ways of conquering fear.
The book concludes with captivating, mind-elevating quotes by distinguished personalities such as Philip Akuma, Ejiogu Amaku, Judy Blume, and former U.S. President Theodore and Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt along with many more. As one reads through this scholastic piece of work, the psychological boost from a quote by Ambrose Redmoon keeps readers focused upon the fact that, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear”.
“It is highly commendable that this book forms a part of any library collection to guard against the Beast Fear.”

Answer of Fearism and Feminist

Hi Michael ! It was big controversial in Facebook. Agree and disagree fifty, fifty. some intellectual were agree with my status and young generation were disagree. I needed to explain many times. I just want to post what I answered to them. Why I said whore is more Feminist than textual feminist. In my status, I was not talking about second person, I was talking about first person one to one. In this case whore has less fear about prestige and society, so she can shout against any kinds of violence, discrimination, injustice. But textual first starts to think about prestige, family, society. So if something happen to her, she keep calm. All these are because of fear.

Some of small question I did not put here. I hope it makes more clear to you. There was not enough space in comment denied to post, So I am posting here. There were good discussion. If you have any place write I will share link to that side.

Ed Smith i think you will need to clarify what you mean, because thus far it does not sound too good

Desh Subba Dear Ed Smith, thank you for your curiosity. If two feminists are travelling in crowded bus, working place and society, they faced sexual violence, harrashment and some kinds of domination, exploitation, texual feminist mostly stay calm, because of losing reputation, fame, family, friends, job and business. but whore has no fear to loose. Her brand is open. No prestige, no family. So she is more courageous. Textual feminist writes huge book. gives lecture, in practical life, she even her domestic domination can not speak. If somebody can not raise her problems then how can represent community. This is I want to say in my. status. Yes words do not sound good, but it is reality.

Ed Smith But being a prostitute does not make one a feminist, nor does being a woman writer make one a coward. And being a prostitute is possibly the worst slavery of all.

Desh Subba yes, they are slavery in public view. This slavery everyone can see, It makes them fearless to talk about their problem. But more slavery is unseen in texual feminist . This unseen slavery makes them fearful. They afraid that, It be seen. Inside curtain of conservative, religious belief, cultural believe , superstition make them fearful. To maintain this reputation they shut their mouth for themselves, their sweet mouths opens for other people dear Ed Smith. who shut their mouth for themselves, how it can open for others. To open for others is artificial mouth.

Amit Pokhrel Well, this must be a sort of a pessimistic cowardice that one cannot assert 'itself' that some or any assertions or provocations is/are just utter frustrations or an outcome of some terrific experiences repressed in one's Somnambulist(Unconscious or Semi-Conscious) Mind. Otherwise one does know for real what a feminist is and what 'so-called' whore is.

A feminist is meant to be hyper-conservative in the context of openness by its own definition. Being open to whatever is trying to enter your mouth doesn't make you the one with liberal-eating-behavior and if you are naturally on the circumstance/point of time when you can't or shouldn't close your mouth and let everything enter inside your mouth doesn't mean that you are liking everything that enters or even doesn't mean that you want to let everything enter inside. And again, even if everything enters, by your want or unwantedely, that doesn't make you the one with a liberal-eating-behavior. Period.

Don't assert in a literary ways of Dostoevsky-ian or Hemingway-ian fanboys, because your Text-Book Philosophy type 'so-proclaimed' Theory of Fearism doesn't fit in there, Mr. Desh Subba

Desh Subba some month before there was news in kantipur daily about sexual violence in BBC world. world famous news paper staff were suffering from sexual exploitation from senior male staff for 40 years. Nobody open mouth against him. If they open mouth they may loose job. Fear of losing job they stay silent.

Anup Joshi This is too much generalization. How can you be so sure that prostitute and sex workers are all motivated to speak out loud and their voice is heard? Are females who come from high class all subaltern? is feminism all about exposing rape and violance? and do u think being female is being feminist by default ? are all whores feminist ? or is it the political consciousness that can even grow on a male mind? The early feminism influenced heavily by French Feminism was later highly criticised by materialist feminism for too much generalization and multi cultural feminism emerged which would promote local feminism with respect to class, nationality, race, culture etc. I think both the females from two different class you mentioned, whore and high class have their own problems and solutions. The way whores are supressed by patriarchal society is different than the way women of reputed family are supressed. So comparing and branding whores as true feminist and the rest as coward isn't going to help. Whores are likely to be raped not only by the mischievous clients but also by the police and those in power, but why aren't those news out? its because they are much more supressed as their voice is neglected and muted due to their social status. And like you said females from high class are also usually unable to expose the violance on them due to their reputation and the patriarchal schooling.
My disagreement is with the generalization. Whores and high class women have their own problems at their own level. Whores doesnt have a ruling family and social status doesnt mean they are free to speak in all countries and societies. They might be controlled by the prostitution mafia and their employer. Their voice might be neglected by authorities and media as compared to that of woman from reputed family as society assumes whores are to have sex.

Desh Subba My point in status is if somebody raped prostitute, she can easily say I have raped by somebody. But if world famous feminist is raped by somebody, She can easily say I have raped. It also differs in social consciousness. her personal life, her family back ground. If she has nothing same like whore, then she does not has loose anything, in that condition say may speak. Normally social life is not like this. Most of either male or female they afraid to loose something. When they afraid to loose something they must keep silent. In feminist life up to now nothing happen ? But They never say about themselves. Only say about third person. That's way I said whore are more feminist. At least they say their problem. So many feminist have many domestic problem, like power, money, status, divorce, fighting in male dominated family, society, still they are tolerating. They are not raising voice in family then how can they represent others. This kinds of situation is everywhere but backward, uneducated, unemployed has more. World is male dominated world, so somehow it happens. Feminist means, raise the voice again all kinds of injustice, dis cremation, violence, harassment, exploitation. But it can not find in reality.

Zindi Jong I cannot agree with the quote in your status, but you got a point here if you're narrowing down to the act of "speaking out after raped". But still there is too much presumption, and the two types of woman shouldn't be simply compared like this. Does the condition you mention about both types of women in great generalisation reflect how women are being exploited differently in different positions of the society even nowadays? Simply the act of speaking out after raped does not justify the claim of being more feminist. That's why I don't think the quote sounds good too.

Desh Subba Zindi Jong, g your style of putting is appreciable, Yes you are right, there are many social, culture back ground people. My status also not applicable for all.

Tank Seling I have a premise - "Bachhanalian is audacious person " it can be verify in different aspect however it is logically unsound in real world. Your conclusion based on numerous unwarranted assumption ,thus, it is shaky conclusion.

ndra Thegim Now I think its an open discussion ...let's openly talk and not take as personally Desh Subba dai...
the first and formost thing I wanna clear here is.... A whore is been legally lincenced in advanced cities and her job is been well respected. One shou
ld not undermine her job and just point out negatively.
I completely disagree with the explanation of texual feminist who is coward and hypothesis .
What do you mean by hypothesis ?
its means she throws her opinion towards society without her knowledge ?
In what basis will she be coward?
coward from her very own partner?
or
coward from her society ?
or
coward from her own strength?
or
coward from her own upbringing?

सिग्मण्ड सम्योग Agree in this post
The actual thruth can't say to dare . Cause , she has consiciousness. So rape, violence, and sexual harrassment are already hypersensitive out of social recognition.

Ed Smith I have to excuse myself from this very interesting conversation, but will make my final statement for the evening. The ordeals of prostitution are a curse most of us will never know. It is not glorious and it is no braver than facing the fear of starvation and deciding selling yourself is less scary. It is vital that we respect and support all women in their struggle against male domination and for control of their own bodies, whether they are prostitutes, fast food workers, doctors or famous writers. In this way we can make a big dent in the levels of fear of those among us.

Indra Thegim Yes I'm expecting a lot more from Ed Smith sir ...Please do let us know more about "A whore" is a real feminist and " texual feminist" is not.

Sukh Raj I completely agree with "Desh's Concept" ! As to what he mentioned is happening in day-to- today practical life. The great life has many innummerable things to make safe due to his prestige
as welk as credit. And all these things create a bigger fear in comparision to normal life. Always fear of credit and fear like a inchcape rock.
Mostly fear emerged due to prestige. So no prestige no fear is Mr.Subbaa´s concept.

Pancha Vismrit It's quite a thought provoking one. I do not agree with this thought, coz the motives of prostitution and feminism are not same.

I am an agnostic, that means I don't really know if God exists or not. I simply don't care. Heaven and Hell? I absolutely don't buy that nonsense. For me, once we die, we die and vanish in nature. End of the story, saint or a-hole.

One day, somebody asked me, "if you don't believe in God, don't believe that there is heaven and hell, who do you fear to refrain from doing bad things? Don't you think that concept of God, hell and heaven, keeps we humans on track? without which, humans may go wild and evil?"

I know that's a logic of many theists. However, many of them forget that Hitler was not atheist. Many corrupted people are not atheists. They have faith in the God. If religion and concept of God and hell and heaven could keep humans on track, ancient world should have been much better. Buddha would not have to leave his palace in search of answers. Jesus would not have to be crucified. There would be no wars, no poverty, no collapse of countries and civilizations. So, basically, concept of these imaginary things don't really keep humans on track. Proven.

So, what does?

I take myself as an epitome (pardon me, I don't know anyone as much as I know myself). I don't believe in God, I don't buy hell and heaven fear, I don't think that praying works, I don't think that any thing will matter once I die. So, what stops me from doing bad things? Like for example, what stops me from raping, or stealing or betraying or cheating or murdering? Obviously, fear of law. That's one thing. But is that enough to stop me from wrongdoings? NO, especially in country like Nepal where rich and powerful easily get away with legal consequence.

What I fear the most is myself. It's not God, it's not hell and heaven, it's not law and constitution, that keep me on tracks. It's things that I believe, values I hold, status I have earned, position I have reached, people I have befriended, people that entrust me. I fear being hypocrite, I fear letting down loved ones, I fear losing trust from fellow humans, I fear being that guy that no one respects. I fear being the loser. I fear living as bad lover or bad husband or bad son or bad father or bad citizen. I fear living with cognitive dissonance.

This fear of self, fear of losing dignity, losing integrity is what keeps me on track and stops me from wrongdoings. A set of values, philosophies, ideologies that I live up with is what defines me, things I do is what recognize me, and that sums up to give me a distinct identity of mine. Living in contradiction will tarnish my identity. This fear of losing my identity is what keeps me on track.

So, do we really need the concept of God and hell and heaven to be good? Absolutely no.

What we need to teach people is, fear losing respects, fear losing integrity, fear being hypocrite, fear being good-for-nothing, fear lacking morals and ethics. World will become a better place on its own, from there. I believe.

Dr. R. Michael Fisher is an artist, writer, counselor, human development consultant and public intellectual. He is a co-founder and director of the "In Search of Fearlessness Research Institute" since 1989. He is a Canadian citizen. He is one of the leading Fearist writers of world. He has been writing on fearlessness and fear management/fear education since 1989.

His book "The World's Fearlessness Teaching, A critical Integral Approach to Fear Management/Education for The 21st Century" is master piece book for fear management. It was published by Universal Press of America in 2010. I have never seen such a deep book on fear. There are many technical books of fear. This is one of the best. It will serve in the future guidance as a core textbook on fearlessness and what he calls “fear education.”

There is not only fearlessness as the focus topic but there are some detailed explanations of fear education and fear management. He introduces child fear as well. Since 1989, he is persistently devoting himself to introduce this theory and philosophy of fearlessness. He offers important discussion on “culture of fear,” and a unique notion of the ‘Fear’ Matrix is important to the framework for his book.

His primary focus is on an improved fear-free education and life. But nobody can obtain a fear-free environment when surrounded by a fearful environment. Which unfortunately is so common today. To have a good quality life and education our fear must now need to be properly managed. He is one of the profound thinkers of fear and his offers graphic and artistic presentation of his models. He has tried his best to provide proof of fear in its complexity in this world. After reading his book, I felt, he has taken fear as overly negative at times, but that is because he uses a culturally-modified understanding of ‘fear.’

He has published another book "Philosophy of Fearism- a First East-West Dialogue" with Desh Subba in 2016. During my study of Philosophy of Fearism, I didn't have any idea of fear management and fear education and management systems. It is missing in my research. His scholarly theories can be quite difficult to understand for general and literary readers, yet, there is always something to learn.  This is the best book for fear education and fear management, and would serve as a good textbook for upper levels university students and other serious readers.

Afresh perspective to look at varied aspects of life

Becoming the first person to coin the term ‘Fearism’, philosopher, poet and author Desh Subba has introduced  a new perspective to look at life  and the society. In his book “ Philosophy of Fearism”  which got published in the month of July, 2014 and discussed, analysed and diagnosed by the intelligentsia across the globe, Subba delves deep in examining fear, its manifestation in human beings and the ways how it can get mitigated.

Desh Subba

Fear is defined as a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil,  pain etc. whether the threat is real  or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. Subba believes that a human being is inundated with fear of every kind, viz; news of war, epidemic, violence, fear of being humiliated and so on. He declares that every human being wants to escape from this all pervading fear.

Rooted on the hypothesis that fear is the most important consciousness in life, Subba uses the concept of fearism as a therapy for everyone who wants to get rid of fear of every sort.

Born in Dharan, Eastern part of Nepal, Desh Subba currently lives with his family in Hongkong. Besides authoring this highly acclaimed work ‘Philosophy of Fearism’, Subba also has authored four novels.

An ardent believer of the theory of Fearism, Rana Kafle from Assam, India left no stone unturned in propagating and popularizing this new philosophy in Nepal and India. Himself being a poet and a writer, Mr. Kafle believes that ‘Philosophy of Fearism’ will revolutionise the thinking process and will provide a new perspective  to look at things around us.

Fear is the driver of human progress, Hong Kong author argues

It's a positive as well as a negative emotion, says Desh Subba, who's written a book, Philosophy of Fearism, and will give a talk about it this week.

PUBLISHED : Wednesday, 25 March, 2015, 9:40am
UPDATED : Wednesday, 25 March, 2015, 9:40am

We live with fear every day and it has been with us since the dawn of human civilisation, Hong Kong-based author Desh Subba argues in a book, Philosophy of Fearism.

Fear plays a big part in our culture - in myths, religious works, literature and philosophy. Its connotations tend to be largely negative. Subba, however, regards fear not in terms of mere phobias, or the “fight or flight” response, but as a part of our wider consciousness and a primary director of life.

The Nepali writer, poet and philosopher will discuss his philosophical theory of "fearism" at the University of Hong Kong Libraries’ Reading Club on March 26. His book, published last year, discusses a wide range of interrelated ideas, including fear as a weapon, a source of courage, as our enemy, as something beautiful and as a means of protection.

Subba contends that fear has been the driving force behind wars and atrocities, but has also been the key to the successful development of human civilisation.

“If fear is divided into two types, black and white, black represents negative characteristics such as violence, murder, crime, conspiracy and ego, etc. White includes characteristics such as civilisation, progress, success, development, friendships, peace, and so on,” he says.

So fear carries us forward, not backwards. Fear is the source of all invention.
DESH SUBBA

“Looking back to ancient times, we had a fear of natural disasters, hunger and enemies. It was necessary for us to protect ourselves, so we built homes, invented machines and started cultivating land, and so on. To maintain social order, we created constitutions, laws, governments and courts. If there was no fear in society, everybody would be careless, resulting in loss, damage and death. So fear brings us peace and happiness.

“Right now we have fear of Ebola. One day scientists will find a cure and we can be Ebola-free. So fear carries us forward, not backwards. Fear is the source of all invention.”

Subba has been working on his philosophy since 1999, after an unpublished manuscript he shared among friends was returned to him with the word “fearism” underlined. He had not recalled using it, but decided it was an idea worth exploring further.

He says many philosophers have dealt with the subject of fear, but none before him have coalesced their thinking on the subject into a fully formed philosophy.

Subba’s talk is at 6.30pm on Thursday at Special Collections, 1/F, HKU Main Library New Wing.

Philosophy of Fearism is published by Xlibris and is available from Amazon.

MAO ZEDONG, DESH SUBBA AND SVIKAROKTI

MAO ZEDONG, DESH SUBBA AND SVIKAROKTI

A week ago, one friend of mindesh subba1e asked me to keep my views regarding these two statements.
“Politcal power grows out of the barrel of a gun.” -Mao Zedong
“Gun is to produce fear. No power to generate fear, that gun is like a flower, no use.” –Desh Subba
Here is what I explained him and to be honest, this is neither the expression of objection nor hostility or any discord but sincere discussion for to increase the dimension of the thought.
“Politcal power grows out of the barrel of a gun.” -Mao Zedong
I don’t say it’s wrong because it was proved to be correct at that phase of time. He ruled for what he had said. But it doesn’t mean right either as now situation is different then what it was.  We grow advance than yesterday. So denfinitely, today we can make use of different many factors like motivating the people for their willing involvement for general interest, ideology, relationship, ruling system, education, economy, discipline, civilization and culture etc to generate political power. Ofcourse, gun can grow political power but its not the ultimate and end source. So, absolutely depending upon only on guns cannot be considered better way today. Truth is that potitical power which has aries from the barrel of the gun, though has got winning stories but do not have the successful and mass appreciated history. Political power that comes from the berral of the gun can not give peace and prosperity to the people because it cannot understand the real need and feeling of the general lives. Nevertheless, aforesaid  statement has a kind of perenial power which can never be obsolescence.
While “Gun is to produce fear. No power to generate fear, that gun is like a flower, no use.” –Desh Subba
I don’t say this statement is wrong either. I agree both of these great personalities but latter statement said by Desh has more critique aspect then what Mao said above.
“Gun is to produce fear.” It is incompletely correct. Reason behind is that gun is not only to produce fear but has other purpose too. Perhaps, guns are/were used and can be used in inducement of power, but it is also useful to overcome the rule imposing by fear and to set free. We have history of people’s revolution where guns being used for freedom, liberty, establishing peace and prosperity. In advance country many general people keep personal gun not for producing fear. Our parents/grand parents used to and still have guns even those remote villages. Did they keep it for fear? My friend here in USA has different many kinds of guns. He has license to possess it. When I asked – why did you keep these guns? He replied me that he keeps it for hubby, for self security, for not to produce fear, instead to remove fear and it does.
“…that gun is like a flower, no use.” Here is another case. Its true, generally we consider things to be useless when it doesn’t function what it intent to do. But when we look this sentence from another angle, it arises the questions, -If the gun doesn’t produce fear, how can it be like flower that has no use? Does flower has no use? I don’t think it is justifiable to say flower doesn’t produce fear. There are instance that people fear flowers. We fear gun because we know it has bullets. Sure, we do not fear if it doesn’t have bullets. But still it doesn’t mean that it becomes useless. If it cannot produce fear, it can be tool to entertain or else. Similarly, if you happen to discover that flower is fitted with a kind of bomb and given to you, then what does it produce?
In-fact, it is simple; fear is there if you doubt, if you have uncertainty, If you have suspicion, if you have alternatives, if someone/something is higher than you, if you know something/someone is against your favour irrespective of what, which, where, when, who and how. You fear because you have doubt that it might be problem, it may kick you. On the other hand you fear because you know it will kick you. Actually, fear is the state of feeling with potential mental pain at given state that gives unpleasant emotion , but good point is that you can have full control over it. Fear or not to fear is with you(how? I’ll explain this in my latter post). It’s neither the gun nor the fear that regulates the life. The motive force that controls conduct and direct life is the accepted alertness by the brain towards the immediate danger/risk; it’s the idea, experience and thought that comes to our mind from the environment that he/she has influence of. In fact if you fear you are the failure.
While, let me change the context little. With regard to this fear, many of my fens, followers and friends have asked me, – is there any way to get rid of fear? While, yes. According to my research there is only one such condition in which ‘FEAR’ will be no more ‘FEAR’, instead it will be fair process of life. It will become discipline, respect, obey, sacrifice, love, peace, research, invention and discoveries. For this one and only the way is to have strong feeling of acceptance. One has to follow the theory of ‘ACCEPTANCE’. Let’s take some examples. You fear God; still you pray. You fear your parents and elders, still you respect because you accept them precisely. You have accepted that they love you, protect you, create you. Here you fear to be more rational. Here the fear doesn’t become real fear. It becomes respect, prayer and system to obey. Where is fear then? No anymore fear. Another case, – Why people become suicide bomber when there is no doubt that they will be killed too? They should have feel fear but why not? Because they have accepted their believe that they are doing some great job for the sake of society, for the sake of God. Here fear becomes sacrifices. On the same way, you fear from risk, hunger, enemy etc. so we have witnessed change from the stone weapon to today’s atomic power. But for sure, if there was no acceptance of idea, no acceptance of existence, and no acceptance of lives then there would not be these changes. Here, acceptances convert fear into invention and discoveries. Where is fear then? It’s real, we have seen man playing with Lions, snakes and with other dangerous animals too. How could it be possible? Fear is accepted completely by which they are able to share acceptance to one another. When there is acceptance, fear comes to end instead love, peace, innovation, understanding starts.  Don’t you believe ? Try it once.
